Italy

In Italy, the word “harvest” has a much different meaning than it does in my Midwestern hometown. Here harvest means combines, corn, and alfalfa. In Italy the major harvest comes to a head with vino. The reason so many small towns thrive in the heart of Tuscany. The wine harvest comes with excitement for the new blends, for the oak casks waiting to be filled, for the wine shop owners and the vintners who are praying for a good year. Either way, a harvest is the start of a new year for many and as the leaves on this vine began to turn, even I got excited for a new year, a new wine, and an abundant harvest.
